A Brief Introduction
Hello World!
I’m a data scientist who took an unconventional path to the field. I’ve been a tech nerd since I was young (my AOL screenname was computergeek[birthday]), but developed a passion for statistics and teaching statistics while pursuing my undergraduate degree in psychology. After graduation, I worked under a psychometrian before going back to school for my Masters in Data Science. As of writing this, I am currently working on projects as a freelancer, but seeking a more permanent position.
I’m putting this first post out into the world to give people an idea of what type of #content to expect from this space.
The Art of Data Science
One of the things I feel isn’t talked about enough in data science is that decisions that are made during clearning, analysis, and modeling aren’t always cut and dry. I believe that studying the human choices made while doing data science, can lead to better machine learning and artifical intelligence.
Fun Datasets and Projects
In order to better illustrate the art of data science, and for my own experimentation, I like to use data that interest me. Things that interest me include cult television shows, pop-punk, fan fiction, internet culture, and anime. These may or may not be topics near and dear to your heart, but I can assure you that they will make for more interesting posts than another demo using the Iris dataset.
Civic Projects
I’m a project lead with Code for Philly and currently working on a project to create software that scans forms for Prevention Point Philadelphia. I’m really excited to share some of the work I’ve been doing on the project. Right now I’m in need of people who want to do front end work. So if you are a Flask person and interested in working of a project that will benefit an organization doing great work in Philadelphia, please contact me.
